Essentials for Gym Goers

Essentials for Home Gyms

  • Wreck Bag The No Sand Workout Bag – Pre-Filled and Ready for Indoor/Outdoor Crossfit Training
This is a personal favorite of ours for exercise gear. The Wreckbag really lets you ramp up your workouts at home. It’s durable, useful for many exercises and is easy to clean. If you’re just starting to build out your home gym equipment this is a great place to start. The Wreckbag is great for getting the most out of your home gym.
  • WOD Nation Speed Jump Rope – Blazing Fast Adjustable Jumping Ropes
A quality jump rope is an extremely effective tool for personal fitness. It helps with cardio, speed, balance, and coordination just to name a few. The WOD Nation Speed Rope gives a very smooth rotation which helps those new to fitness find success from the beginning and speed for those more experienced. Using the WOD Nation jump rope will help you step up your overall fitness level.

Essentials for Yoga

  • Manduka Cork Yoga Block
The Manduka Cork Block is extremely helpful for those who are still working on their flexibility. The cork provides a secure, firm surface to support yourself on (that we haven’t found in a foam block). It is easy to grip during a variety of movements and makes getting started with yoga easier.
  • TOPLUS Yoga Mat – Non-Slip Texture, Eco-Friendly Exercise & Workout Mat
This simple piece of foam can really improve your workout experience. If you’ve ever exercised on a hard surface you already know how miserable it can be. The Toplus Yoga Mat makes exercise on any surface more comfortable and improves grip during yoga.
  • The Original Stretch Out Strap – Top Choice of Physical Therapists & Athletic Trainers
Stretching is an important part of health and fitness. The Stretch Out Strap allows you do get more out of your stretches without assistance. The Stretch Out Strap has been around for years and has consistently provided tools for improving flexibility, range of motion and improved recovery. The Stretch Out Strap will help you recover faster and keep moving towards your fitness goals.

Non-Essentials (but very fun/helpful)

  • Fitbit Blaze Smart Fitness Watch
Smartwatches like the Fitbit Blaze can be a really fun addition to your daily fitness routine. If you’re a numbers person (like us) you’ll really enjoy being able to see progress over time. Being able to see how you’ve progressed can really be motivating when you’re in a slump.
  • Plantronics BackBeat FIT Wireless Bluetooth Headphones
We personally use these daily and always have a pair in our exercise gear jump-bag. They are some of the best wireless headphones I’ve ever purchased. They’ve been put through the wringer and they continue to produce quality sound through running, lifting and even some yard work. Plus, not having headphones with a cord makes workouts smoother and more comfortable. If you’re considering getting wireless headphones we highly recommend giving these a shot.
  • High-Density Round Foam Roller
Designed to relieve sore muscles before, during, or after workouts. This can quickly become a favorite piece of equipment. We use these often to help relax tight muscles after a tough workout.

When it comes to supplementation there are endless options and varieties to choose from. There are also a huge number of different types of supplements to choose from. Because Tips By Fitness is here to provide a solid foundation for functional fitness we only focus on protein powder in this section.

Adding additional sources of protein into your diet is important for both muscle development and recovery.

Below are two options that we feel are a good place to start if you’ve never tried protein shakes before.

  • Muscle Milk Pro Series Protein Powder
Muscle Milk has been a big name in the fitness industry for years. They consistently deliver a quality product at an affordable price. The Pro Series powder listed above is a favorite of our team. It blends well in either milk or water and provides a good amount of protein per scoop. If you’re just testing the waters when it comes to protein shakes, this is a good place to start.
  • NAKED WHEY 100% Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder – GMO, Soy, and Gluten Free
If you’re looking for a “cleaner” source of whey protein Naked Whey is a great option. There is an increase in demand for whey supplements that are less processed with high protein. Naked Whey is a little more costly but delivers a great source of clean protein.
